Our First Day

We have arrived, finally! After an initial phone call and a few visits to the Rescue Centre by Morg, Mr Morg and the young Master and Mistress, we've found a new home. Before we tell you about the human element here, I suppose we'd better tell you a little about us, the GellieGirls, named as such because it is a combination of our names, Gemma and Ellie.

Gemma is such a loyal little lady with an inbuilt guilt complex which aids and abets me, Ellie. Yes you've got it, not only can I type reasonably well for a chocolate labrador, I'm a little bit naughty. I ahem, ignored fruit in a bowl but the mars bar was too good to miss, unfortunately I didn't devour the wrapper so our new mum, Morg found the evidence at her feet! Gemma did look shamefaced when mum asked who had 'done it' but I was quite, quite bold, merely wagging my tail, generally looking appealing.

It is true, I have an inate sense of guilt though why only knows, I think we have both been well loved. Slowly slowly, Ellie will perhaps not be so eager to help herself to the 'stuff' humans seem to find so neccessary. I overheard Morg saying to Mr Morg words to the effect 'I did think that the oven gloves should have been moved but it slipped my mind.' Is she having senior moments I ask myself?

Our new home is lovely, we have a new bed each, needless to say, Ellie is customising hers and no doubt will think my bed needs personalising too; good thing Morg got plastic beds otherwise Ellie would have eaten one of those fancy soft beds. We got a little reward or three for being clean girls, visiting outside to do puddles and more, in fact, as yet, not an accident.

I note that Ellie didn't mention the wooden spoon and spatula she managed to use as a teething ring, she's well beyond needing any such thing. We've got new toys which the humans like to throw for us both to retrieve, sometimes we play tug or war with the Young Mistress or the Young Master. Honestly, we've only been here one day and they're besotted with us because we are exceptionally lovely.

Both of us were excited when the Young Master and the Young Mistress arrived home from their respective places of learning, greeting them with much tail wagging. Of course, this has a two fold effect, they simply cannot resist our labrador charm and naturally, they play with us both.

It should go without saying, we have test driven the extending leads, Morg is reluctant to let us off just yet on the advice of Marj from the rescue centre. She said 'keep them on a lead for about a week before risking them off their leads. It will give them a chance to build a bond'. Anyway, on Thursday evening, the Young Mistress, Morg, Ellie and me went for a walk to an enclosed space which had interesting smells, the fallen tree being of particular interest; it was so appealing, Morg, Ellie and me went again this morning once the Young Master and Mistress had vacated the premises.
